I’m excited to share a recent achievement from my students at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Three of my students earned first place at HackaBull, a nationally recognized hackathon that brings together talented developers and innovators from across the country.
A High-Pressure, Real-World Challenge
Hackathons are designed to simulate real-world engineering environments. In a short amount of time, teams must go from idea to a working prototype, balancing creativity, technical execution, and clear communication.
This kind of setting challenges students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and deliver under pressure, skills that are essential in today’s software industry.
What Set Them Apart
What made this accomplishment stand out was not just the win itself, but how the team approached the problem. They demonstrated strong technical ability, a clear problem-solving mindset, and the ability to work together efficiently to build a polished solution.
These are the same qualities that define successful engineers beyond the classroom.
Why This Matters
Moments like this highlight the value of hands-on learning. It’s one thing to understand concepts in a classroom, but applying them in a competitive, real-world scenario is what truly prepares students for their careers.
Seeing students succeed at a national level is both rewarding and a strong indicator of their future potential.
