On a rainy day at Palm Beach Atlantic University, a crowd of students, faculty, and staff gathered to hear Dr. Michael Kolta speak about his new book, Christian Ethics in Computers, Software, and Artificial Intelligence (Kendall Hunt, 2025).
Dr. Kolta opened with a quote and a challenge: “For those living in the modern-day USA, computers affect every aspect of life.” He invited the audience to try to prove that statement wrong, something he noted he hasn’t seen done in 25 years.
The talk explored how Christian ethics can meaningfully shape the development and use of computer software, especially A.I., in everyday life, as well as in high-impact domains like the medical and legal fields. Dr. Kolta also highlighted what ethical collaboration between computer science and moral reasoning can do for the world, and what can happen when ethics is absent.
